After completing a bachelor’s degree from the Department of Architecture at Chulalongkorn University, Saran Yen Panya left Thailand for Stockholm —to the bewilderment of his friends and family— for a master’s degree at the storytelling department, Konstfack University. The support he received in his decision to relocate echoes the recognition this designer, stylist, animator, and visual storyteller has received since first entering the fray with a short animation constructed from kitsch street vendor souvenirs. Saran makes use of an endless array of media to convey thoughts, ideas, and expressions in ways that audiences never considered but can easily comprehend —the calling cards of a great storyteller. He has exhibited his work at home and abroad, and has even realized his ability to bring out ideas as part of TEDx events. At TEDxChiangMai 2016, he proposed that by keeping an open mind and being nonjudgmental we can create weird, wonderful, and beautiful things.
