Lisa King, the creative force behind the the innovative, go-to, one-of-a-kind swimwear, scarfs, kaftans, beachwear, and everything-prints brand, Lisa King London, has established herself thanks to immense talent and skill. Previously making prints for the likes of Diane Von Furstenberg and Armani, Lisa founded her eponymous label, Lisa King London, back in 2013. As we sit down with Lisa to explore everything from what she is working on to dream collaborations, we learn that the world of Lisa King is more than trademark pieces and mesmerizing prints.

Why did you choose this career?
LK: I always knew I wanted to do something creative, I just didn’t know what path it would take. Meeting and assisting stylist William Baker whilst at university gave me a very privileged opportunity to experience what it was like to collaborate with the very best artists, fashion and graphic designers, set makers, and musicians. I hoped, one day, I would be as good them. Despite all the challenges of running my own business, I love what I do. I love print and I use it as a means for collaboration. I have a vision and I try to manifest it everyday through art, design, styling, photography, commerce. Combine that with the people you meet and getting to travel the world… what more could you want (apart from more sleep)?

What are you currently working on?
LK: My new swimwear collection, an exhibition, and a six print design commission for a client.

What are your tips on dealing with a stressful day?
LK: Make a list; focus on doing one thing at a time. I’m usually stressed when I feel like there’s so much to do I don’t even know where to start. Book in some exercise and get ten minutes of meditation in before bed (I use the Calm app).

What inspires you?
LK: Natural forms. Radio 6 music. Mixed-media art. Movement.

Who do you look up to?
LK: My mother.

What did you want to be when you were little?
LK: A marine biologist—didn’t we all want to swim with dolphins?

Dream collaboration?
LK: Nike. Or Robert Rauschenberg.

What are some beauty products you can’t live without?
LK: Coconut oil. For everything. And I’ve just fallen in love with Haeckels from Margate.

Best tips for fixing beauty emergencies?
LK: Concealer and ice!

What is your signature scent?
LK: The white Narciso Rodriguez Eau de Parfum.

Robert Rauschenberg.
If you have some free time…
LK: I’ll go to an exhibition or gig, or I like to cook! I find cooking very therapeutic.

The best way to unwind?
LK: If I’m in England, my boyfriend and I like to go to Five Rhythms. It’s a two hour freestyle dance meditation that happens in an old church in Vauxhall. It’s a huge release and you sweat all the bad stuff out. If I’m in Bangkok then a massage at Ruen Nuad.

What is your dream vacation?
LK: Costa Rica: hiking and surfing holiday.

Your favorite food?
LK: My mother’s corn fritters, and grilled chicken with spinach soup and rice

If you were a food, what food would you be?
LK: Som tam. Fresh, with a kick

If you were a cartoon character, who or what would you be?
LK: Purely based on my long hair and mixed origin, I am told I would be Pocahontas or Moana.
